Advanced Night Repair Eye Gel-Cream Mini : Undecided

I don't normally splurge on skincare, but was recently feeling nostalgic recalling my grandmother's skincare regimen. She used Estee Lauder religiously until her 80s and her skin was beautiful. So without reading any reviews (sigh), I purchased the night repair eye gel-cream along with the matching overnight face cream. The first night I used the gel-cream it definitely irritated my eyes and I only used a teeny tiny bit. So I went to the website and read reviews and by the time I hit the 3rd page there were so many one stars. I got worried and called the support number to speak with an expert on how to use this product to avoid the irritation many are complaining about. And I ended up getting talked into purchasing the Estee Lauder Eye Balm to use as a base under the gel-cream. So far, with this combo, I am not experiencing any major burning/redness. But I definitely did have irritation during the first week using the gel-cream by itself. I'm now in my third week using both creams and it seems to be going well. The skin around my eye is definitely more smooth and dark circles are not as prominent. I removed a star because I don't like that I had to purchase two products to make this work for me.
