DON'T GET THIS!!!

First of all, I think this is the first negative review I've ever written for a product. I bought this product because of the brand name and knowing they have good skincare products. And how can you mess up sunscreen if you're already this reputable at this point, ya know?

APPARENTLY YOU CAN BECAUSE IT LOOKED LIKE I DIED AND I COULD NOT GET THIS OFF MY FACE!!! Do not get this unless you have 0 melatonin in your skin or are okay looking like Morticia Addams for Halloween and ran out of face paint.

Leaves a significant white cast

I bought this because I really love and trust this brand. Unfortunately, I bought it before I looked at the reviews. That was a huge mistake. The first time I put this on, using the recommended 1/3-1/4 of a teaspoon, I looked like I put white Halloween paint on my face. I am not kidding. It dried super fast and sat white on my face. Ok maybe I used too much? I tried again using less product and doing my face in sections. The white cast was still strong and made my face look like it had a blue tinge. I looked dead. I decided maybe it needed to sit on the skin and that would help - nope. I wish I could return this. As it is, I think I'm going to just have to throw it away.

Worst sunscreen I've ever used in my life

I'm religious about facial SPF and I've tried a million. I've never, ever seen another one this bad. Using a normal amount of sunscreen I literally looked like I was doing some kind of offensive geisha costume. Caked in white. Even washing with a washcloth and water wasn't enough to get it off, I needed to rewatch my face.

Even trying to use as tiny an amount as I can (way less than my dermatologist says to use) there's a bad white cast. This is all on light/medium olive skin (Italian and Irish). Unless you're a ghost, this will not work for you.

Helpful Pointers

I usually don't post reviws; but I thought why not? Someone else could be experiencing the same problem as me.

I bought this on a whim, because turns-out chemical sunscreens burn my face. I'm sensitive, what can I say? There's a stupid amount of white cast and isnt the easiest to rub in.

I fixed that though 💁🏻‍♀️ I can't continually keep buying sunscreens, because who tf has the money for that? I found two korean mineral sunscreens, but I have to wait a month on delivery.

Here's what I figured out though.

Do you have a thermal water spray? A foundation brush? Get filtered water in a spray bottle if you don't have thermal wayer spray.

Wait 5-10 minutes after moisturizer. Lightly spray ( whatever you have, either the filtered water or thermal spray ) and tap the product into your skin. Leave your face damp. You don't want your face dry for this next part.

Apply sunscreen. Go in with your foundation brush afterwards. Do whatever method you want - I basically pat the sunscreen, kind of swipe into my nose creases, etc. You'll figure out what method works for you.

Allow the product to absorb into your skin. It's not gonna IMMEDIATELY SOAK-UP!!

TA-DA YOU'RE DONE!!

I would never recommend this product for darker skintones, even anyone with a tan. This method really only worked for me, because I'm white with some color. The white cast isn't as noticable anymore unless you're staring SUPER HARD AT MY FACE.

Hopefully this review helps you out in the future, especially if you're in a bind.

hahaha

okay, so I purchased this product with the idea that cerva-has ceramides, cool; spf50 -extra protection, cool...but as a woman with tan skin this product was a huge disappointment. It does not rub in (only sits on top of the skin) it comes out white from the tube but when applied it turns a pale purplish color...yikes! I could not imagine putting makeup over this product as I would just turn myself into a willy Wonka character. the price point is there but the application makes the price point not even matter. I hope cerva can eventually see the reviews and work on the formula. unfortunately this product will be going back.

Yes, it's white, BUT…

Its the only sunscreen that doesn't burn my eyes. I live on the water in Florida. I've tried loads of sunscreens and there are some higher end brands like estee lauder which also work for me, but this is a bargain. I buy 3 of these every spring. Keep one in the garage for yard work. One in my room for any day I know I'll be in sun. One in my beach/boat bag. If I'm going out to a ball game etc, I apply this all over my face & eyes (i use eye cream first). Let it soak in at least 5 minutes, wipe off my dark eye brows (it seems to collect there) then apply something with a tint, preferably also with sunscreen, but probably not 50. It's perfect and lasts for many hours even in hot weather. When I know I cant avoid direct sun, I also wear a hat. If Im at a ball game, I reapply the tinted cream. If Im boating, I apply this every 2 hours, yes, it's white, but my skin looks pretty darn good for 50+ yrs old raised in the sunshine state. My favorite tinted moisturizer with spf is Algenist. Bare minerals has something similar which also does not burn my eyes. This sunscreen is also sweat proof!

Not worth it

I thought it would eventually settle so I waited longer than 15 minutes and I still looked like a Geisha! My face was so pasty white. I tried blending and blending and nothing! I like the SPF strength but everything else is horrible. I was disappointed because I wanted a high SPF mineral sunscreen because it doesnt bother my eyes. Which is why I gave this a 1 star because I above and right under my eyes and it didn't irritate them but the horrible white cast that never blends in makes it not worth it ;(

Does the job

I got this awhile ago, but was never great or consistent about putting sunscreen on before leaving the house until recently. Now that I'm in my late 20's, I realized I needed to get a good skincare routine down to prevent future signs of aging and started using this on top of a Vitamin C serum and my daily moisturizer. No matter how little I put on, it leaves a white cast for a solid 15-20 minutes, and I'm fairly pale so this makes me look like a ghost. However, it does seem to sink in after that 20 min mark and does the job as I haven't burnt even without reapplication. I'm not sure if I'll get it again due to the cast it leaves, but it does work well otherwise.

Unless you are whiiiiiiiiite do not buy this!!!!!

This is by far the worst and most expensive sunscreen I have ever tried. Unless your skin is pure white and have no tattoos maybe you will like it. As a brown person with skin on the lighter end of the spectrum I don't feel I can speak for darker skinned folx but I would HIGHLY recommend avoiding this product. Applying this to my skin was like applying a white wash paint. My skin looked ashy, pale and honestly creepy. In addition to this making my skin look like a corpse, it was super sticky and got on EVERYTHING. I am so disappointed and frustrated with the product. CeraVe do better please, it's 2022.

Awful!

I saw some of the bad reviews for this and thought it was just a joke, like ripping on this sunscreen was a meme or something. I'm super pale and anything tinted is too dark for me, so I don't mind a white cast - it typically helps even out my skin before makeup. I'm the kind of person that has to buy pure white foundation mixer to lighten the lightest shade of any brand. I actually expected all the complaints about this white cast for this to mean I'd like it. That being said, this sunscreen is AWFUL. It's like a really thick Elmer's glue that just goops up on your face and then dries it out. There's nothing hydrating about this. I don't understand how this is even on the market, it's absolutely terrible. There aren't words for how bad it is.
