Great for oily skin!
Love! Love! Love! I was using an expensive retinol at a low strength but it was still pretty strong where I was getting slight peeling. I decided to switch to this retinol on my off days and WOW. The next morning my face looked hydrated, calm and cleared my acne. I now use this nightly and use the expensive stuff occasionally. On days when I feel my face is too dry, I add a few drops of hyaluronic acid to it and it's perfect! For reference I have oily skin and this stuff does not make it oilier. Great product!

Girrrrl i'm telling you, you will love this!! i have been using this the last year and have seen a dramatic improvement in my acne scars! i have gotten compliments from so many people saying my skin looks so glowy and looks so smooth. i have extreme scarring. i have deep scars and dark spots as i have had years and years of hormonal cystic acne. nowadays, i have sensitive, dry skin, and this doesn't feel too drying when i use it underneath my moisturizer at night. when i also have a flare up, it doesn't seem to irritate my cystic acne it also seems to help calm it in a way. i will say when i first started it, i used it every other night until my skin got used to it. the bottle is small, but lasts awhile as one pump is enough to cover the whole face. i promise it's worth it!!

I'm on my 3rd bottle of this serum. It is the only retinol I have ever used that does not burn my skin. "Resurfacing" is a great name for the effect, the application feels gentle but after a few consecutive days my skin starts flaking off like no tomorrow. Like, sheets of skin. In the first few weeks of use it dug up healed acne cysts, turned old scars bright red, and made my skin feel like a paper bag. Derma-E Vitamin C Night Cream makes for a great tag team. After healing up my skin is hydrated, bright and even and I rarely use concealer anymore. It's important to drink enough water, use moisturizer and sun protection with retinol, and to exfoliate gently and frequently. And don't ever ever put this on your lips lol
Great for dry skin!
The formula is great and has very good ingredients, but I believe this is more geared towards someone with dry skin. Since this is a cream cleanser, I think it caters more toward people with dry skin. I kind of need that foaming cleanser to get all the oils and dirt off my face. But other than that, I think it cleanses my skin very well. I had makeup and it took away most of the makeup except for the eyes. But I think a double cleansing should do the job. Other than that, I don't think this is the best cleanser for me per se, but I would recommend it to someone with dryer skin.
Foaming cleanser!
This is a foaming cleanser, but not like super crazy or anything it's more creamy to me. This cleanser does have 4% benzoyl peroxide in it, but I'm fine with that if it'll clear my breakouts. I loving using this cleanser, my face actually feels so much healthier and cleaner since I've started using it. I love that you can use it in the morning and right before bed without it damaging skin. I've noticed less breakouts and smoother looking skin. Leaves my skin feeling so fresh and free of breakouts! Finally I don't feel like I have to have makeup on to leave the house!
Great for acne if you have oily/combination skin!
I have struggled with all kinds of acne, hormonal, cystic, white heads, black heads etc. This is the only cleanser I can honestly say has made a difference in my skin during flare ups. It dries out your skin for a while initially and you will definitely see some peeling/purging at first but its so worth it for how much better you'll look in a week. Your skin is likely to adjust to the drying, but I found it useful to lightly exfoliate in the middle of the day once just to clear some of the flaking in the first week. I tend to have oily skin when my hormones are all off and this helps control that tons.
this IS my nighttime routine
I love this product. I'd had bad experiences previously using a retinol cream which made me break out horribly and painfully, so I was wary about using retinol again. At first, I only applied it once a week, then every other night, then every night. I saw a difference almost immediately! Almost 6 months later and I'm still on the same bottle. My hormonal acne still appears every month, but it's reduced to just one or two spots on my chin. The skin around my cheekbones is actually DEWY and the scars from a bike accident are fading away. I've noticed that it works better if I use it at least 2 hours after cleansing and moisturizing.
Closed Comedones
If you have closed comedones, I highly recommend trying this product out. I have always dealt with having closed comedones every now and then and I could never get them to fully stay away. I tried a retinol product in the past, but it really irritated and dried my skin out. (I'm pretty sure I didn't do enough research on retinol before using that product though, it is important to do research on retinol before using them) That product caused me to be afraid to ever try another retinol product, but I took the chance on the Cerave retinol due to all the good reviews, and I am so glad that I took the chance on this product. After using this product on a consistent basis, all of my closed comedones have gone away in less than two weeks. I use it only three times per week every other day because it does the job for me, so I will definitely continue using this product.
Too Gentle??
I bought this because I saw a couple suggestions from some of my fav youtube estheticians. After purchasing and looking more closely… there is no percentage anywhere… or anywhere online? don't like that. don't even like that they can't say less than 1% because that's fine ??? it's still transparency. ANYWAY—- this retinol serum was like TOO GENTLE. Didn't even do anything. Tried it a couple nights and I see more effects with retinol serums after one night that actually are transparent and say they contain less than 1% lol

How To Use
Morning Routine:
- Moisturize and protect with CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30.
- Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure.
- Reapply at least every 2 hours. Use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating.
- Children under 6 months: Ask a Doctor. For external use only. UV exposure from the sun increases the risk of skin cancer, premature skin aging, and other damage. It is important to decrease UV exposure by limiting time in the sun, wearing protective clothing, and using sunscreen. When using this product avoid contact with the eyes. If contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water. Stop use and ask a doctor if signs of irritation or rash appear and persist. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.
Night Routine:
- Apply CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum evenly to face daily.
- Avoid contact with eyes & lips. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
- If discomfort occurs during first application, space out the applications until skin adjusts. Apply a sunscreen while using the product. For external use only.
- Moisturize with CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion.
- Apply liberally to face and neck at night, or as directed by a physician.
