DHC Travel Size Deep Cleansing Oil Reviews
Game changer!
I really like this oil cleanser! Wish I would have switched sooner! I've been using "natural" oil cleaners for years now for removing my makeup. I've used coconut oil, grapeseed oil to jojoba oil. Those all worked fine for removing makeup but I would still have excess oil leftover from washing my face just with water. So I always used face wipes to remove what was leftover. Then I would double cleanse with my second cleanser (Cerave/Cetaphil). I love this oil cleanser and don't see myself switching back to natural oils. This product does a great job of melting my makeup but doesn't leave excess oil when rinsing off with water. I still double cleanser to actually "clean" my face. I recommend using a second cleanser afterward to actually clean your face. My favorite part is that I don't have to buy any more makeup wipes!
Love this product
This oil smells like a spa, feels great on the skin, and the fact that it emulsifies is INCREDIBLE to me. You can rinse it off like any regular cleanser and it leaves your skin feeling clean but not stripped. In terms of makeup removal, it works well although I think micellar water is better for eye makeup. This is definitely a great addition if you're choosing to double cleanse. I use it to massage my face sometimes and it works well. The best part is definitely the emulsification. Overall love this product and will continue purchasing it!
Broke me out ???
I used this everyday for about 3 1/2 months & I noticed I always had a pimple on my face since using it, I always thought it was my BC since I got them at around the same time, until I recently ran out and decided to buy Clean It Zero instead. I've replaced this DHC Cleanser with the Clean It Zero for about a week now and I haven't had a break out since using it! I used this DHC oil for double cleansing and it did a good job at removing makeup & when I wasn't wearing makeup, it was good at removing my SPF. Such a shame I didn't realize it broke me out until I ran out but better late than never
Please use this properly!
It's a great product and reading these reviews I think a lot of people do not know how to properly use a cleansing oil/ balm. It is step one of a two step cleanse you absolutely have to follow up with a water based cleanser or yes you will clog all your pores and break out! The benefit of the two step cleanse is that the oil will really break down and remove your makeup better than a water based. Follow up with a water based cleanse to remove any left over oils then continue in with your normal routine. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF HOD
PLEASE DONT USE AS A ONE STEP CLEANSE!!!
wow...
I do not usually write reviews but I feel like I had to for this.. this is honestly great at removing makeup and it doesn't sting my eyes. BUT WOW the cystic acne I had after only using this two times is astonishing. I have never suffered from true painful cystic acne until I used this. My skin is not super sensitive and I don't usually have acne unless it's hormonal. I have normal to dry skin. This oil, plus having to wear masks everyday, absolutely destroyed my skin. I haven't used it in about a week and a half and my acne is no where near gone.
I would buy this again
I purchased the travel size because I was new to the double cleanse world and wanted to try the product before committing to the larger size and wasn't disappointed. It's really great at removing makeup- even waterproof mascara and lip stains. When I finished the bottle, I purchased Farmacy's Green Clean Balm because I had seen several skincare gurus raving about it. After a few uses, I can definitely say I prefer DHC's cleansing oil. Having to scoop out Farmacy's product was a bit of an inconvenience in the shower and it irritated my eyes every time.
Love For Double Cleansing!
I use this product as my first step in my new double cleansing routine to take off my makeup and I have never had my face makeup taken off better!
I don't do this everyday (only when I am wearing makeup) and find that my skin is SO MUCH smoother after the wash and the next morning too. I just feel like it gets all the makeup and oil buildup (I have extremely oily skin) that has been sitting in my skin.
I use it with dry hands and face and gently rub for a good 3-4 minutes to properly get my entire face. I also put more attention on my nose, cheek, forehead, and chin area where I often have small bumps and pores are biggest. Make sure you are generous with the product! I use AT LEAST 2 pumps (as it says) to create a high oil concentration on top of my skin to draw out the oil in my skin. I then wet hands and rub my face to get the cleanser to turn white then wash it off. I follow with a second lighter and water based cleanser to finish it off.
The likeness attracting likeness idea with oil cleansing makes sense to me so I decided to try it out this year and I'm definitely NOT DISAPPOINTED!
Overall Extremely pleased!
broke me out like never before
I have always had clear(ish) skin with occasional pimples but omg this literally made me have SO MUCH acne.. I had to go to a dermatologist because it was so bad. However, I used this for oil cleansing that takes like 20 min. so it wasn't a quick use so that may have been it but my dermatologist said I was the 3rd person who came in and mentioned the use of this product. so beware, but i'm sure for a quick cleanse it doesn't do much harm. just be careful:( ruined my skin- I wish I could upload a picture of the before and after.
Rosemary irritated
This product certainly doesn't need more reviews but I wanted to caution people with sensitive skin. I have been using this oil for a little over a week. My skin has been hurting, peeling and red. I finally realized that this product irritates me. I believe it's the rosemary. I don't think I have peeled so much in my entire life and my eyelids are red itchy and scaled now. Just a heads up for people who may be sensitive. I stopped using this oil yesterday and although I'm still peeling my face doesn't burn or hurt any longer. I don't regret trying the product,.. I just wish I had realized that I was sensitive to it sooner. Good luck!
BEST MAKEUP REMOVER!!
I don't often leave reviews but I will on this one:
I wear waterproof mascara, with a final coating of Thrive Tubing mascara on my eyelashes. PLUS, I line my eye with waterproof liner. I don't like using anything where I have to use a cotton ball to get off my makeup anymore, because I don't like rubbing my eyes (it's pulling on the skin), so I starting using the Clinic Take The Day Off Balm, but that makes my eyes blurry. Then I tried Tulsa's cleansing oil.. this was too thin and it didn't remove all the black around my eyes. But THIS - DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is PERFECT! It comes with a pump, which I like, and the oil isn't runny; it's kind of thick. When you rub it on, it feels like you have substance there. So what you do around the eyes is rub on gently for about 20-30 seconds, maybe up to 40 like the directions say, or until your eyelashes feel soft. Then use warm water to wash off. I then use a cleanser afterward. The coolest thing about this product is it doesn't leave an oily residue on your face or around the eyes. Lancôme's eye makeup remover does that, and I love Lancôme's products but I don't like an oily feel around my eyes or on my face.
Bottom line: this product's packaging is convenient, the oil is thick and not runny, it actually removes all of my black waterproof eye makeup, and doesn't leave an oily residue. I definitely recommend this and will only buy this product from here on out.
Great product - Do not use everyday!
So I went on a whim to get this product specifically for my dryer days as a hydrating cleanser. The first time I tried it it did not go so well. It says to use it on dry skin, then add water.. no no no. It felt heavy and I didn't feel it cleansed well. So I put it to the side. Then my skin was dry again and I said let me try it. This time I was in the shower and my hands were wet, and my skin was damp from the steam. I loved it.. it thinned the product which didn't make it feel heavy - my skin definitely felt better. So I used it daily for about 4 days, then something said.. use a foaming cleanser( I use Aveeno, clear complexion), and something in my skin changed - it was more hydrated throughout the day, and it felt soft and like just good skin. So I decided I would alternate - I use the oil 4 times a week, and the foaming cleanser 3 times.. or vice versa. My daughter is jealous of my skin now because she said it is so clear and fresh looking. I don't use toner or serums.. Only these 2 cleansers and moisturizer( Dove Beauty cream is my preference). My daughter has uber sensitive skin and is working with a dermatologist, which is why she doesn't use this combo.. but overall great great product, I just wouldn't recommend using it everyday, or on dry skin.. use a bit of water
Breaks down makeup and skin feels super soft
I bought this as a trail size first. I found this product through a Youtuber I follow that reviews makeup. She exampled how well this oil breaks down makeup and you will never need makeup wipes! So freaking true ! I absolutely love this product. Believe the reviews ! It breaks down all my makeup with 2 pumps on dry skin. It legit melts away any dirt, and than I follow with my regular cleanser. Truly an investment. The trail size also has lastest me 5 months and I use it about once to twice a week as a makeup remover ! Must have !
Love it
I'm always outside; mountain biking, hiking, camping, so I always have sunscreen or dirt on my face. I was washing it twice after a good day of play but it either still didn't feel clean or it felt dry afterwards so I'd slather it with moisturizer only to be repeated. Then I saw this cleanser and tried a trial size based on reviews and hoping for more moisture and my routine changed. I now have purchased a full size and refilled my trial bottle for out of town trips. I use this every time I wash my face and follow it with my usual CeraVe cleanser and my skin feels amazing. I also use much less of the CeraVe and it lathers much better. I love this stuff and will continue to use it.

Blackheads in a bottle
I really wanted to love this! I had heard such amazing things, so I bought the travel size to try it as the first cleanser in a nightly double cleanse (followed by CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser) and twice a week for OCM. At first, it seemed to work great—my skin didn't overreact to it, it doesn't have a lingering smell, and it made my skin so soft! Then I started noticing a few more closed comedones, but wrote it off as stress/poor diet. Then I started noticing a LOT more blackheads, and more cysts. As a test, I switched to a different oil cleanser for a week, and even in that short span of time, my skin improved, so the remainder of the DHC is going in the trash.
Not good for oily/ acne prone skin
I always had very minimal acne before my skin got messed up from using this product. I originally bought this product because I wanted to try out oil cleansing. I didn't know much about oil cleansing when I purchased it but I soon found out that this product is not suitable for oily skin/ acne prone skin. At first I thought it was working for me but in about 2 weeks I started to get small bumps around my face. After continued use my pores got even more clogged and they quickly became very inflamed. Moral of the story: do your research before you buy skin care, in this case, make sure the oil is suitable for your skin type.
Horrible for your skin
I started using this product this summer since I wanted to start double cleansing. It does takes your blackheads out, so at first I was happy with it. However, it strips the rest of your skin too. I've always struggled with minor hormonal acne (1-2 pimples a month) but aside from that my skin was generally nice and not sensitive. I used to have clear glowing skin that looked good without foundation. But this DHC oil RUINED my skin. All summer, my face has been dry, flaky, sensitive, irritated, dull, and worst of all, I broke out in cystic acne all over my cheeks and chin. I had to start wearing foundation to cover it, which obviously only made it worse.
At first I thought maybe this was due to the stress of working 60 hour weeks during the pandemic, but for 3 months things kept getting worse. I finally removed this oil from my cleansing regimen at the advice of my dermatologist and my skin is already SO much better. The acne it caused will take another month to clear and will probably scar, but my texture is already back to its old baby smoothness, and my face doesn't feel irritated all the time anymore. All I use is a gentle face wash now - sometimes less is more. Please learn from my mistakes and be gentle to your skin.
The one saving grace of this oil is that it's great for cleaning makeup brushes. But it's basically olive oil so I would not recommend using it on your face.
LOVE LOVE LOVE This Product!!
I have used this oil for years and years and I will never be without it! This formula is fantastic and has never changed. It's the perfect 1 step cleanser if I've not worn makeup that day but if I've worn full makeup, it's the perfect 1st step for makeup removal before you cleanse. You massage the oil into dry skin (weird, I know) but if you wet your hands or apply to a wet face, it will break up the oil and start to wash it away...it wont work. TIP: soften your mascara with warm water before you use the oil and it will cleanse every iota completely away. I highly recommend this oil!
Too striping. My skin turned into SANDPAPER over long term
A bit of background, I've been struggling with a bit of cystic acne and damaged skin barrier during quarantine. I was upset that I was having a glow down so I got disciplined with my skincare routine. I purchased this product a while ago and reintroduced it in a double cleansing regimen. Note: I had a gentle, minimalistic routine for acne with CervaVe, sunscreen, etc. After a month I began to notice my skin was still oily, forming cystic acne yet now it felt dehydrated and started forming SANDPAPER-LIKE-BUMPS. I freaked out and thought it was congestion. I added AHAs/BHAs back in, then my skin was REALLY MAD and the bumps were EVERYWHERE. I couldn't figure out what it was. All I knew was my skin was so much worse, I had acne, the skin barrier was still compromised and no amount of moisturizer was fixing the texture. I spent a few months playing with product elimination and when I removed this my skin softened up after two washes!!! This was literally cleaning off my skin barrier. In retrospect I realized this was consistently stripping my skin, even when my skin was healthy.
Overall, Just because it works well doesn't mean it's good for you. And although it's a customer favorite notice that it's never been recommended by a dermatologist or skincare specialist.
I never leave reviews...until now.
Holy moly! I bought this to calm down a really bad lash lift because the oils in it are supposed to help. I'm now throwing away all my previous makeup removers and eye makeup removers (waterproof mascara!). My face has NEVER felt so clean. Not greasy at all - no breakouts. I wish I had back all the years I spent tugging at my eye makeup with a cotton round and eye makeup remover. This is a one and done product that gets all your makeup off and leaves your skin feeling so good! I will be a repeat buyer for sure.
