allergic reaction

I really wanted to like this. I had seen things online about oil cleansing for oily skin and I thought I would give it a shot. A lot of people recommended this product so I thought "why not!". I tried it. After a few days I noticed what looked almost like a crazy breakout across my face. I had done a 20 min oil cleanse two days earlier followed by a foaming cleanser. Turns out, something in this oil is giving me an allergic reaction on my face. My skin feels dry and tight as well. No fault of the product, there's just something in here that my skin doesn't like. I have no known previous allergies so I'm not sure what it is. Spot testing also didn't reveal this reaction.

AWESOME CLEANSING OIL

I have combination, sensitive skin. In the summer with MN humidity, I'm prone to breaking out due to sweating. I use this product as the first step to double cleanse. It works wonders in removing makeup, sunscreen and thicker moisturizers. Wonderful to use if you enjoy facial massages! Doesn't sting the eyes, make sure to wash throughly, as the product emulsifies a bit. I do not dry my face, but go right into my 2nd step water based cleanser. If I feel a film after I dry, then I know I didn't wash the oil off throughly.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BUYING

I saw that this has such a high rating and have been wanting to try a cleansing oil for my double cleanse at night. At first it felt really nice and emulsified really well, but after about a week of use my skin FREAKED out. My skin has been pretty clear before using this with only a few small bumps every so often. However, I am 22 and I have honestly not had a breakout this bad since high school. I have bumps all along my jawline and huge swollen pimples on my cheeks. This product is derived from mostly olive oil which can be really contesting for people who are acne prone so I would look for something else with linoleic acid. If you have really dry skin that is not acne prone, maybe it will work for you, but otherwise I would not risk it! Hope this helps!

AMAZING

I cannot say enough good things about this product. I'm not sure what happened with some of the negative reviews, but I have oily/combination skin and am very acne prone and this product has been such a game changer for me. I use it as the first step in my nighttime routine to remove all my makeup before using my regular cleanser. My skin feels sooo soft and my pores are noticeably smaller and my breakouts clear up much faster now. I feel like this really helps your face wash be more effective, so you need to have a good face wash otherwise I don't think it will work quite as well.

This is consistent my go-to cleanser

First, it doesn't cause breakouts on my oily skin because it attacks grease and removes it. Next, it removes every bit of makeup by instantly dissolving it and it rinses away instantly. One bottle lasts forever and it's so soothing. A person could use this as their only makeup remover and cleanser and have glowing, healthy skin. It seems to heal my redness and acne faster and my skin has never looked better. If you've never tried it, you really need to do yourself the favor. This saves time, energy, counter space and your skin.

NOT for the acne prone!

This gave me cystic acne! I wanted to try oil cleansing after watching labeautyologist's videos on the topic, so gave this product a try as it was one of the highest rated oil cleansers I could find. I was experiencing very mild breakouts when I began using this, but within two weeks, my cheeks were covered in cystic pimples (which I NEVER get, especially on my cheeks). Initially, I thought it was purging, but after looking more into it I realized it was just my skin telling me this is a no-go for me. I do have more oily, acne prone skin, but everything I read told me this would be safe. A month later, I'm still working on clearing up the mess that this made on my face.

I'm a believer

Up until recently I didn't believe oil cleansers were a thing.. being an oily girl it's hard to get used to putting oil on my face. This stuff is sooooo good!!! It's so gentle on my skin. I love that I caught it during the Love Your Skin event so it was 50% off! I will continue to purchase at MSRP. I will say, my daily makeup routine is fairly light - just liquid foundation, powder, powder blush, bronzer and highlight & dip brow - I don't bake, or conceal, and I don't wear eye makeup because I have lash extensions, so I can't speak for how effective it will be on mascara or extremely pigmented eyeshadow.

Read before leaving a bad comment!

I see some people complaining about this product, but I think many of them would like it if they used it as step one in their makeup routine, washed it off with a wash close gently, then used a normal cleanser. This is how I use it and with only 4 uses it's been a HUGE game changer. Not only does it not clog my pores when rinsed off properly, but it seems to help clear them significantly, especially when I spending more time rubbing it into trouble areas like my nose and chin. After years of looking for a product this does the most for me. My skin feels more subtle when I add this to my routine and definitely clearer.

I WOULD PURCHASE AGAIN

So I heard about double cleansing especially for times wearing heavy makeup. I was trying to find a really good cleansing oil that really does the job! To describe this item is like a lighter oil that typical ones you usually use! It removes my makeup so good and it rinses off so easily. I usually use the oil before the shower and just massage it all over my face hitting every spot and rinse off the oil in the shower. Then I go in with a facial cleanser and my face feels clean! It's the best I've tried and beats old times of using coconut oil! I love it!!!

Bye bye makeup. Hello soothed skin.

So I was introduced to this product by my mother, a woman, who for YEARS, complained of skincare products and makeup being too oily and terrible for your skin. So color me shocked when she handed me this cleansing OIL to remove my makeup one evening. I thought I'd entered into an alternate timeline. But she swore up and down this product was her favorite skincare product ever (and she's been talking Clinique up to me since I was in the womb). I wear a lot of makeup so I usually need a several-step process to remove it all and oftentimes I feel dried out afterwards. I put this on my dry face (a concept still astounding to me) and it was life-changing. My makeup melted off my face completely. I splashed water to remove everything and my hands immediately began touching my face. The luxurious moisture, the glow, the cleanliness. I was blown away. And since that day, I have used nothing else to cleanse my face at the end of the day. My skin is tighter, plumper, healthier. 5 stars seems woefully inadequate.

Didn't disappoint

The most noticeable difference after using this oil once was the tiny bumps that took up residence under my jaw line and chin for as long as I can remember, were gone after just 1 wash. Yes, ONE wash. I have used exfoliators, washes, other oils, masks, those stubborn little bumps were never affected until washing up with this. I was sold. Now to other things, I have lupus so my skin is highly reactive and this has no negative effects. Does it remove makeup? Well kinda. I couldn't get my waterproof eyeliner off with just this, but my skin makeup came clear off. I usually use philosophy 3 in 1 which does remove the eyeliner but not all the face makeup. I live in the midwest so the himid summer, I will likely double cleanse. However THIS PRODUCT out of literally hundreds that I've used, will remain a staple. I went to beauty school and enjoyed an allure subscription since grade school so I'm not a newbie and THIS works!!

If I had to guess what people react to, rosemary oil would be my best guess. You can try a bit on your inner elbow and let it sit for an hour or so and check the spot to see if you have any reaction to it prior to using it on your face. This is good practice with any new product.

My all time favorite makeup remover

This is absolutely the best makeup removal product I have ever tried and I know for sure it will be the only one I use from now on. It effortlessly breaks down everything on my face, including long-wear and waterproof products, and washes off like a regular cleanser with water. I have used products like this before that claim to wash off with water but this is the best one without a doubt. I've stopped using makeup wipes and all other makeup removal products since I discovered this, I would recommend this to anyone that wears makeup, especially heavy makeup.

Usually great but not my last order

I have been using the deep cleansing oil for literally 10+ years but the last bottle I ordered I didn't need to open right away as I had another bottle left over. As the review below, I am experiencing a rancid "bad" olive oil smell with this bottle. I guess in the past I always opened and used the bottle right away. I did store it closed in the box in my bathroom medicine cabinet, maybe that is too warm an area to store it? Just an FYI to DHC. I am using the bottle with no ill effects. Just makes me hesitant to order any more that I will not open right away. Thank you.

Skin No Likey

I was excited to give this a go, I have combination skin that isn't exactly acne prone, but I have large pores and they always look like stuff is in them but nothing really ever comes out except the sides of my nose. I thought an oil cleanser would get down deep and dissolve all that, woof I was wrong ! It dissolved the rest of my face though ! My skin has never been more red or more dry, like it HURTS when I smile. I feel like my face is going to crack and I have tiny bumps everywhere. Straight up allergic to something in this. This is the only thing I changed in my routine and so I know it's the culprit. Saddening, I'm just glad it was cheap. I'm actually hoping to take it back for a refund.

Loved it at first...

I've always used dermalogica's pre-cleanse, but wanted to try something else. After reading reviews and articles about the best cleansing oil, I chose this one. I loved it at at first. My skin was so soft and felt so clean! THEN... about 5 days in, I started experiencing symptoms of an allergic reaction when I used it. I tried it a few more times, thinking it was just dry skin or the cold weather. Nope! My skin has completely rejected it. Breakouts (I don't have acne prone skin), burning, red and angry skin. It's a bummer that it didn't work out.

Not for everyone

My skin has looked really good but I wanted to get it a little more even because I have small bumps...they're not that visible and I thought I would try this because of the great reviews, but it made my skin so much worse. I don't break out at all, this broke me out and gave me a lot more uneven skin. It's the only thing I've changed in my routine in a really long time. I didn't give up, I tried this for a month, hoping it was just getting worse before it got better, but it never did. I'm still trying to reverse the damage and it's been almost 2 months since I've stopped. I think some of the ingredients in this clogs pores. I'm pretty disappointed it didn't work out. Just be careful.

Terrible

I literally wish I could give this 0 stars. I wanted to like this product because I've heard nothing but great things about it. However after using it for about a week or two I broke out in tiny red bumps all over my face. I know it was form this face wash because it is the only thing that I changed for my skin. I don't think I've ever broken out so bad from a cleanser before. I have sensitive oily skin and this was terrible for my skin. I believe it clogged my pores. My skin was fine before this but I wanted to try something new because my old face wash has bad ingredients. I'm hoping my skin will return to normal.

Only product that works for Scalp Psoriasis

I would recommend this product to everyone! As a face wash by itself, makeup remover, and dry skin, scalp or dandruff remedy. I've used this product for over 10 years on my face. The double cleanse regime is the way to go for any skin issue, but even by itself it's great at removing makeup and cleansing. However I just recently developed an auto-immune disease and all matter of horrible skin issues because of it. Mainly scalp psoriasis. Every single shampoo and medicated treatment I put on my scalp exacerbated the condition. Even the medicine prescribed for it. After shampooing, my scalp would sting and burn, then itch, and 2-3 days later shed a layer of skin causing dandruff. I was in agony until I started treatments with this. It's the only product that moisturizes AND rinses out without making my hair greasy.

A HG for me

After I started using my staple daily spf, I realized I needed to start double cleansing because removing titanium and zinc oxide based sunscreen is not easy. I've tried other products but I find this one to be the most effective at a reasonable price. The 6.7 oz bottle lasts me quite awhile. After using this product and then my regular cleanser, I feel like my skin is actually clean but not stripped, and ready to apply my night serums. I really don't use much makeup, though, so heavier makeup users may not love it as much as I do. I have very reactive skin and this has not given me any issues. It's become my staple night cleanser step one.
