pretty okay for what it does

I bought this product to dry and curl my hair. The blow dryer itself is great and I like using the attachment to smooth my hair and dry my roots. The curling iron takes practice, but once you get the hang of it the curler gives you loose blowout-like curls. The biggest draw back is getting the hang of it. Your hair needs to be almost completely dry and you got to use the cool setting to set the curls if you want them to last. I would say this is good for anyone looking for a product that doesn't damage your hair unlike the typical curling iron.

Not quite what I wanted

I had a similar item years ago that I loved and worked perfectly for my short hair. I was hoping this would be a good replacement but unfortunately the barrel in this is too big. I need one with a 3/4" to a 1" barrel. I wish they would make it again!! Please!

Unfortunately, I had to return this.

Not good for thick hair

I used this a few times with different techniques. I have somewhat thick hair and had to really section my hair to get the curls to stay all day and use tons of hairspray. I wouldnt reccomend this styling tool if you have really thick hair

I had high hopes for this styling tool!

I was given this hair tool to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I was so excited to receive this product! I love the idea of having a hair dryer and curling iron all in one. The hairstyle I wear most is curled. After using the product I was a little disappointed in the end result of my curls. The hair dryer works great and has various speeds. The curls are very loose waves similar to a blow out style. I would recommend this product if you are looking for more of a blowout style! If you are expecting more of a curl to hold you might want to research other options. I love how fast the dryer dried my hair and will definitely continue to use as a hair dryer, but not for my every day curls.

I would recommend to my friends with thinner hair

I received this 2-in-1 tool as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. It was super easy to put together and use. Each part of the tool was simple to use and that is something that is important to me. However, as easy as it was to put together, I will still probably go back to using a separate dryer and curler.

The 2-in-1 tool curled my hair pretty well. The caveat was that I could not get the curls to hold. With my hair, it's a hard task, and this seemed to be for thinner hair. Like I said above, this probably won't be my go-to but I am going to keep trying to use it. Just in case it is user error.

My favorite part of the tool was the easy to assemble parts and the fact that I did not really worry about burning my hair off. The drawback was that the drying comb apparatus seems to be for thinner hair. Even with my hair in sections, it did not seem to comb my hair and dry it effectively.

I would definitely recommend this product to all of my friends that had thinner hair than mine!

Half and half

This product definitely had pros and cons. The pros were the blow dryer part of it. I absolutely loved it. Heated immediately and cooled immediately. I loved that it would comb through the hair while drying it. The combing and splitting the hair apart made it dry faster, which saved me a lot of time of course. Also, this blow dryer made my hair feel smoothed at the end and less frizzy on the too of the head!

The cons of this product we're unfortunately the curling iron part. Even on the lowest setting, the curling iron blew too hard which resulted in multiple "fly aways" or somewhat frizzy. All thought it kept my hair smooth, it did not style it, so I had to use my actual curling iron to set the style.

Beautiful tool but just misses the mark

I was so excited to try this Hot Tools curling and drying styler. I have seen and heard about this kind of product from friends and family who rave about them, and since I'm usually too lazy to blow out my hair, I thought this would be really wonderful to shorten steps and give a polished look in half the time. The Stellar Product Testing Panel graciously provided me with this hair tool and as soon as I received it, I couldn't wait to try it. The packaging and product itself feel like really high quality — nothing lightweight or cheap about it down to the box it comes in. I tried this on a handful of occasions, doing my best to follow written and video instructions on how to use it best, but ultimately I couldn't get it to meet my expectations. What I changed each time was how wet my hair was, sometimes almost dry, some on the wetter side, some in the middle. I always used a styling product as suggested. Keeping my hair more wet wasn't helpful and took too long to use the tool. On the dryer side, it definitely finishes drying my hair and even looks like a great curl at first, but it always fell quite flat very quickly. I think this product could work so well for a specific hair type, and perhaps if it had clipped up each curl afterward, maybe it would have set better. My hair is super stick straight; it dries naturally that way and can hold a curl from an iron but can also be a bit weather dependent. I did not use this on rainy or humid days to make sure it wasn't falling flat because of the weather. In general, the tool was pretty easy to use. It takes some time because you're still curling and not simply blowing out your hair, but if my curls held it would be worth it to skip a separate blow dry, especially if I was in a pinch for time. One thing that is a bit difficult about using it is that I have a hard time keeping the air on while switching between strands; hair would blow everywhere and smaller pieces would blow out from the barrel before I could curl them up. Because of this, I had to shut off the dryer between each piece of hair. That wasn't such a big deal, though I wish it had an easier toggle or button to be able to do so quickly. While I don't think I will be using this product for curling, I do think some people with different hair types could benefit and I will definitely be looking for a brush attachment so I can still use it to blow out my hair rather than curl it.

Not so good for thick, super long hair

I really wanted to love the Hot Tools Pro Artist Protect & Style One-Step Detachable Dryer and Curler, but I found it didn't work particularly well on my extremely long and heavy hair. I was trying it as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I did really love the root drying/fluffing attachment! I suspect the curling attachment would work well on shorter, lighter weight hair. I tried it once and found it wasn't working very well for me so I got some tips from the company to see if I was doing something wrong. The only thing they suggested that I didn't try was a hair curling serum to help the curls stay. But since I don't normally need to use one to get my hair to curl I opted not to use the serum to review this product so I could compare apples to apples. Normally it takes me 15-20 minutes to blow dry my hair and another 30 to curl it. Using this tool it took me over an hour to do only half of my hair, I had to hair spray like crazy to get the curls to hold, and then the lightest brushing made it all fall out again. I know part of the reason it took so crazy long to do my hair was that my hair is just too long for a tool like this, so I had to use only the tiniest sections of my hair at a time so it wouldn't overlap on the rod and could dry properly. Maybe if I cut my hair shorter I'll try it again, but for my super long hair it just wasn't giving the results I needed.

Not ideal for course hair

I was given this hair tool to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I have very thick, course wavy hair and while it was nice to be able to only use one tool to dry and style, there was a learning curve to using the curling iron. It dried my hair well but the curls didn't stay very long and I had some frizz and flyaways. If you have thinner hair, or are looking for something that's easy to travel with, I would suggest this tool.

Less Damaging Curls

Admittedly, I was a bit anxious to test this 2-n-1 tool because I thought there would be a steep learning curve. But it ended up being very straightforward! My favorite part is that it's less damaging to hair than other heat tools. I also like how easy it is to swap the attachments and that hair can't get sucked in (and ripped out) like it sometimes does with the back of traditional blow dryers. That said, it took me about 5 minutes to use the blow dryer tool on my roots and another 22 minutes to curl, which is similar to the total amount of time it takes me to dry and curl my hair using traditional heat tools. I have fine, wavy hair and noticed that my hair is frizzier using this product. I have chest length hair and the barrel was a little short for it, but it still worked fine. Overall, I think it's a great tool if you want healthier, loose curls. But if you're looking to speed up the styling process, I don't think this tool necessarily accomplishes that. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this hair tool.

Need to practice more but not the biggest fan

[I received this hair tool from the Stellar Product Testing Panel.] I am usually able to pick up fairly quickly on how to best use new hair styling tools but that was not the case for this. I felt that the brush attachment didn't actually brush through the hair to be able to get it decently dry. My hair is fine but I have a lot of it so typically drying tools work well on my hair. I ended up having to use my own hair dryer. The controls and switching out the attachments were simple to figure out so that was a plus. I get where they were going with the curler attachment and I do like the idea of having a clamp so it's not just a wand but the curls did not stay at all. Even using high heat with both damp and dry hair I still could not get the curls to stay. Maybe it's just me and I need to practice more.

Not for short hair

I received this hair tool from the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I had high hopes for this dryer/curler combo. My hair is not quite shoulder length. I used the root drying attachment as instructed. This part of the tool worked perfectly and gave my roots more volume than my regular hair dryer. Due to my hair being short most of it was dry after using the first attachment. Once my hair was too dry the curler/dryer attachment could not perform properly. I gave the product 3 stars, because I think it would work better for longer hair.

It's alright!

I thought the concept of this product was great. It's nice to have one iron that does a few different things (curls and dries your hair at the same time). I should start by saying I have very thick hair. When I first tried to dry my hair and curl it at the same time, I was not able to get very good curls bc my hair was still damp. However, when I curled my hair when my hair was dry, it worked well. My hair held the curls the same as any other curling iron.

I also did not find any directions that came with my curling iron and struggled to take the dryer attachment off. I will use it again and play around with it some more though bc I want to really like this.

I received this product as part of the Stellar Product Testing.

Easy to use but maybe not for really thick, long hair.

I received this hair tool from the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I was excited to try it out as it would be nice to simplify hair tools as I don't have a lot of extra storage in our bathroom. I was impressed with how user friendly it was, I briefly glanced through the user manual, then tried it out. You're supposed to use the root drying concentrator attachment to dry the roots before starting on the rest of the hair with the curling barrel. I found that it took forever to get my roots dry since my hair is so thick. It has really good wind speed and heat for such a small tool. When it came to the curling it was pretty similar to using a regular curling iron. You wrap it up, clamp it, then turn on the air to the setting you need (high, medium, low, cool) and hold it there until the hair is completely dry. I like that you can use the cool setting to "set" the curl before releasing it. Since I have long hair, the barrel didn't seem quite long enough to be able to wrap my hair without overlapping hair, which prevents some of it to be able to completely dry. I think if you have medium length or short hair it would be just fine.

Ultimately I would recommend this to a friend as long as they don't have really thick long hair.

convenient hair tool for extra body

also a busy mom, so I appreciate products that are 2 in 1 and have multiple uses. I liked this product overall - it was pretty easy to get the hang of and I like multi-functionality. It was easy to hold and control. I was a little underwhelmed with the curling results though. It resulted in some waves and body, but the curl didn't last long at all. So, if you're looking for a strong hold curl, this may not deliver what you want. I think it did work well in terms of adding volume at the root with the dryer. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this hair tool.

Good for curls!

It took me a few uses to get the hang of this tool, but the curls that it gave me were defined and bouncy and stayed in all day! It's a little cumbersome and I did find that the roots tool left my roots frizzier than I would like, but overall I would recommend this product!

Not Impressed

I was so excited to try this new styling tool thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel. Originally, I thought this could make life simpler, but I don't think it does. Unfortunately, it really didn't reduce styling time at all. It took just as long - or longer - to dry and style with this as it has with two separate tools.

The curls aren't anything impressive with this either. The pictures I've included show medium-fine hair texture, so maybe it's better for other types of hair. Although, I can't see it working on long, thick hair at all.

It also has a huge learning curve. Reading the tips and/or watching the tutorial video is a must in order to use this. It's not natural or user-friendly to use.

The tool, itself, seemed poorly built. The clamp doesn't line up perfectly (see picture), so it doesn't clamp very tight (which adds time, because you're trying to hold the hair tightly enough against the barrel).

Overall, it does work, but it's nothing to get overly excited about. I won't be using this daily as I had hoped.

Not a replacement for curling iron or hair dryer

The Hot Tools Pro Artist Protect & Style One-Step Detachable Dryer and Curler works well, but it definitely does not replace a curling iron or a hair dryer. I have thin hair that holds waves pretty easily. Typically I can blow dry my hair quickly, or let it air dry, and style later with a curling iron or brush without using that much heat. I found that the tool is loud (like hair dryer loud- obviously) but instead of only using a hair dryer for 10 minutes or less and then using a silent curling brush, the first time I used this it took almost an hour and a half. Which is a long time for me, and a long time to listen to a hair dryer! After using it a few times and getting used to it I was able to get results in about 45 minutes. Being able to style my hair quickly is important to me, and with 3 young kids and not a lot of time to do my hair, this doesn't seem feasible to use daily. But it's great for occasions or using it every so often. I also recommend using the "set" feature for each curl (switching from hot air to cool air for the last 10-20 seconds). My hair is naturally wavy and without including that step in the process my hair barely stayed curled. When using the set function it definitely gave me curling iron curls without the heat. I also noticed I had to hold each piece of hair curled in the tool for a long time, and even having the tool on the lower heat setting it felt very hot on my scalp. Overall, I enjoyed using this product when I had a lot of time to get ready, but I won't be getting rid of my curling brush or hair dryer any time soon. I received this product through the Stellar Product Testing Panel.

Better for thinner hair

The Hot Tools Pro Artist Protect & Style One-Step Detachable Dryer and Curler is a fun concept, and I had high hopes for it, but I ended up feeling pretty "meh" about it.

I received the Dryer/Curler to review through the Stellar Product Testing Panel, and I was really pumped to give it a go.

I have a LOT of fine, curly hair and styling it takes forever. I was hopeful that this would cut out some of the time, but unfortunately it just made more work. I started with wet, toweled hair and used the concentrator on my roots like the instructions said. It was fine. They got dry. But the weren't very straight or smooth, and I didn't notice much reduction in frizz. Then I sectioned the top half of my hair up and went to work on the rest with the curling attachment.

Again, it was just fine, bordering on annoying. It works, but it takes a while to do in the 1-inch sections the instructions recommend, and the rest of my hair dried before I could finish all of it. So, my results were mixed at best. It's not very efficient if I have to keep re-wetting my hair to use. I might as well just use a regular curling iron at that point.

So, if you have thinner hair you might love this. But I didn't.

2-in-1 Products: Are They Worth It?

I received this product through the Stellar Product Testing Panel and was immediately intrigued by its dual purpose in drying and styling. As a full-time working mom to an infant, I need efficiency in my morning routine to get out of the house on time. The first couple of times trying to 2-in-1 tool was of course a bit of a learning curve. Just how dry did I need to get my hair? How long did I need to hold the curler in heat and cool mode for it to hold and last all day. The product itself was easy to use and to switch between both attachments but it did take some trial and error to get the results I was looking for. Initially, drying and curling my hair with traditional tools was easier and quicker. However, after practicing with the tools and using my own techniques that worked best, I was generally pleased with the results. I found it easiest to turn the curling iron attachment off until I had the hair wrapped to avoid my hair flying all over and that seemed to do the trick. A negative was the curls did not stay as tight throughout the day as they do with a traditional curling iron. I am not one who uses hairspray so that is an important piece. I would say for a more wavy, beachy look I would use this tool over my traditional curling iron in the future. For mornings before work, I would likely continue to use my traditional dryer and curler as I don't have time to let my hair air dry enough for the dryer piece to be quicker or more effective than my traditional dryer. My favorite feature of the tool is the ability to switch to cool to set the curl. I don't like using a lot of product in my hair so being able to lock the look in place with the cool air is a nice touch. I do think, however, it does not work as well at doing so compared to a traditional curling iron. I would recommend the product to a friend with the caveat that it takes practice, trial and error, and some of your own techniques to get the designed look. Overall, for me, was a 2-in-1 tool worth it? I'm not overly convinced!
