This was my first time ever doing an at home bleach and I was pleasantly surprised. Any unhappiness I had was a first time user error not a product error. I followed up with toners and purple shampoo. I also did a lot of googling on at home bleach jobs.

Great drugstore bleach

I have really dark hair, like level 2 or 3, and this lightened it well, to a 7 or 8 probably. I also have really long hair but I was only planning on doing the ends - good thing because I would've needed 2 or 3 if I was doing my whole head. I put purple on top so I only needed it to be light enough to see the color. Overall I would 100% buy this again - and am planning to soon!

Burned a chunk of my hair off

Did my roots with this thinking it would be fine because my natural hair is dark. Instructions say 20min at the least, I had it in for 5min before it started to burn, washed it out and it had burned my scalp and ate the hair at my roots! Had to cut my hair to make it less noticeable.

I really liked this

My daughters really wanted to dye their hair, after months of using the "let me think about it" to end the conversation they finally found a way to force me into a yes by both writing to Santa asking for a coloring kit. They both have very dark brown hair which is why I was dragging my feet. At home bleach or $200+ at a salon no thanks to either. I thought it would be difficult or turn into a hair disaster if I tried to do it myself.

However, after reading some reviews on here and watching a few videos online I decided to pick up this kit for them and it worked perfectly! They now each have blue and purple tips to show off after Christmas break.

This is effective, the brush was great. I think the instructions were understandable enough, especially if you've used a regular box color dye before.

If I am nit picking, it would've been nice to have to have a clearer time lay out. I left the bleach on for about 25 min for my daughters, but that was after going back to YouTube and quickly watching more videos after the first application when the package instructions basically said "check every 10 min - don't over bleach". A little vague if you're inexperienced. And like some other reviewers have said- a bigger mixing bowl would be nice as it completely fills the tub and spills over.

This kit was amazing!

That said, you really need to know what you're doing, and work quickly. 40 volume is no joke, and it works fast! I used it on my mids and ends (none on my roots), and it took me from a 4 to a 9 in about 30-45 minutes per section. I did it myself, and had all my sections ready to go because I knew 40 volume would be quick! It's called Lightning for a reason!

For someone who is lightening their hair for the first time, definitely do a test strand and work from the end of your hair up towards the root. That way you can get a feel for how fast this product will lighten your hair.

Best bleach I have ever used!

I have brown hair and sometimes certain bleaches do not really work to well. They tend to make my hair yellow instead of more bright blonde. This bleach was bright and took the color so well! It is also a great price! Would definitely buy again.

Pretty good!

Worked pretty well! I have medium/dark brown hair and two short processes with this bleach was able to lighten it to a very light yellow, which worked well for the neon green I was doing. I will say that I have a buzzcut, so I think this might not work quite as well for longer hair that is further from the scalp. I also think if you were going for a cool color like blue this bleach might not be enough if you have dark hair, but for any other project I think it would be just fine.

Love & Hate Relationship

So I decided to use a different bleach product instead of my usual product and decided to use this. The instructions were super easy to follow, kinda hate how small the bowl is but I had to use since my cousin lost my mixing bowl & the brush felt cheap and breakable but surprisingly didn't (yet). Now the application wasn't smooth at all but that might've been my fault for not applying the whole bottle so definitely don't do what I did. But besides that only one side of my hair came out good, the rest was just disappointing. I used tin foil instead of the cap so it'll be faster but for some reason it didn't work on the upper part of my hair only the tips. I'm use to dying others hair not my own but I'll buy this product once more since I do like the tips results.

very reliable bleach kit

yes, it's cheaper in the long run to buy a larger quantity of bleach and developer but if you're like me and not great at nailing the ratio precisely then this bleach kit is great. i've been buying this product on and off for years and i've had great results every time. you WILL need multiple boxes unless your hair is very short or thin. my hair is not that thick and i still go through two boxes when bleaching my roots, 3 when i was doing the entirety of my (shoulder length at the time) hair. you want the bleach to really saturate the hair so buy more than you think you need. overall wonderful product

Worked great!

I have naturally medium brown/dark brown hair. I left it in ~40 minutes and my strands came out golden blonde. My hair seems to look as healthy and feel as it did before. I did highlights rather than my whole head, so I have hair to compare against. I was sad to toss out the remaining product, but it does mean that if I wanted to dye all of slightly longer than shoulder length hair, I would have had plenty to do so.

I have naturally dark

I have naturally dark brown hair, and at the time I first used this product, I'd wanted to change my hair color from dyed black to pastel purple and pink. To do this I knew I was going to need a strong enough bleach but didn't want to blow my budget since I had so many other products to buy. I normally don't recommend Manic Panic but this bleach did what I needed it to well enough that my hair looked light blonde throughout before I moved on to dyeing it again. It did take two applications to do this though. If you have lighter hair, you will NOT need a second application.

This worked fantastic! Not

This worked fantastic! Not only that, it smelled nice, and had GREAT directions! That's super important when it comes to bleaching hair. I was able to lighten my daughters hair at least 7 shades for her to do her purple streak. I left it only a half hour because I didn't want to break her hair off, so just imagine if I left it 15 more minutes for the total time?! I'm just so totally pleased with this user/beginner friendly bleach. Totally recommend. In fact, I've already purchased another box for my kids next round. One thing I will note, is not a lot comes in it, I would've needed maybe 2-3 boxes for her whole head, but it's great for doing a couple streaks on short hair or one on long.

Best box bleach but...

The 40 Vol Manic Panic bleach is the best box lightener I've used for my hair. I have very dark brown, almost black, hair, and a lot of bleaches - especially with vol 20 developers - don't lift me more than maybe 2 or 3 shades, and I get stuck in the wonderful red/orange phase. THIS however gets me from my natural to a nice light blonde (so from about level 3 to level 10) in one sitting!

The only issue I've come across, is with my last 2 purchases, as the developer in both have had foam coming out of the closed bottles? Now, my hair is highly stubborn, the developer still mixed with the powder well, and my hair didn't seem to be anymore damaged that it normally is after a bleaching. SO I'm not sure if the developer was expired or not? There's no dates anywhere on either boxes, so I have no way of knowing. But, again, it still bleached my hair and didn't make my hair fall out or anything, which is why the foam only takes off 1 star.

Love this bleach! My hair is always a rainbow color, and this bleach is one of the only kinds that actually gets ALL the color out of my hair. I absolutely love it. And it dosnt damage or destroy my hair!

This is my go

This is my go to hair bleach for changing my hair color fast. I can go from purple to blue in no time. Does a great job bleaching the color out of hair. Leave as is, for a bleachy look, or throw in a spectacular shade of something that makes you happy.

Best Bleaching Product - Buy Two!

I've been using this product for years. Consistent results every time and no damage to my hair. I follow with Manic Panic Virgin Snow to get a perfect Platinum Blonde.

I highly recommend you buy two kits if it's your first application and your hair is longer than a pixie.

My mom used this

My mom used this to bleach my hair a few years back. It was her first time using bleach, as well as the first time my hair had been lightened. It turned my hair yellow, though I would expect that since I have dark brown hair. We used a blue/teal Manic Panic dye after and it turned out really pretty!

This destroys my hair

This destroys my hair but it really does do the job. I wish these were a little cheaper and more readily available at local stores. If your hair is anything but short you're going to need at least two boxes for full coverage.

Absolutely incredible, every time

I've used pretty much every drugstore brand of bleach available, and every single one has fried my hair. Since using Manic Panic's bleach, I can honestly say that my hair feels healthier than it ever was with any other product. Would absolutely recommend to anyone considering dying their hair; it's especially great for first-timers who might be concerned about damaging their hair. My hair is a very dark brown, and there have been times where I've left the bleach in for more than an hour (I know, not recommended), and my hair still didn't feel like straw afterwards.

This product is better

This product is better than some of the highly advertised products as it doesn't burn sting are chemically damaged your hair when used with directions I use this all the time to keep my colors fresh and change colors often I highly recommend this product for the people that are do it their way at home styling and hair coloring.
